Privacy policy
Proper Cooked handles personal information under the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it.
01Who we are
Proper Cooked ("we", "us") runs propercooked.com, a service that reads recipe links, converts ingredients to Australian measures and builds shopping lists. Questions about privacy go to hello@propercooked.com.
02What we collect
Account information: your email address and, if you set one, a display name and handle.
Content you create: recipes you add, cookbook entries, notes, scaling choices, shopping lists and anything you share by link.
Preferences: your region, language and measurement settings, stored in your browser and on your account.
Technical information: IP address, browser type, pages visited and error reports. We use this to keep the service running and secure.
We do not collect payment card details, and we do not ask for sensitive information.
03Why we collect it
To create and secure your account, and to sign you in.
To provide the service: parsing recipes, converting measures, filing your cookbook and generating shopping lists.
To share lists and recipes when you ask us to.
To fix faults, prevent abuse and improve how the product works.
To contact you about your account or a material change to the service.
04Recipes and the shared Library
Recipes you add may appear in the shared Library. The Library shows the recipe, its source and the original publisher's credit. Your private cookbook notes, scaling and shopping lists are never published.
Publishers can ask us to remove content at any time through our takedown page.
05Who we share it with
Service providers who host our database, authentication, storage and email, and the AI provider we use to read recipe pages and structure the results. They act on our instructions and may store data outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union.
People you choose to share a list or recipe with, through the link, text or email you send.
Anyone we are required to disclose to by law.
We do not sell your personal information and we do not run advertising.
06How long we keep it
We keep account data while your account is open. Delete your account and we remove your personal data and private content within 30 days, apart from records we must keep for legal or security reasons. Recipes already in the shared Library may remain, without your name attached, unless you ask us to remove them.
07Security
Data is encrypted in transit, access is restricted to what the service needs, and per-user access rules apply at the database level. No system is perfect — if a breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required by the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
08Your choices
You can ask us for a copy of your personal information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@propercooked.com and we will respond within 30 days.
Not happy with our response? You can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
09Children
Proper Cooked is built for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. Tell us if a child has signed up and we will remove the account.
10Changes
We update this policy as the product changes. The date at the top shows the current version, and we will tell you in the app before a material change takes effect.
