FAQ

Free, data and limits

Is any part of Proper Cooked paid?
No. Every feature is free forever — importing recipes, Australian metric conversion, your cookbook, shopping lists, printing, PDF export and sharing. There is no paid tier to move up to and no card is ever asked for.
Do I need an account?
No. You can paste a link and get a converted recipe and shopping list without signing in. An account is only there if you want to keep a cookbook, and it takes a name and an email — no password.
How many recipes can I store?
As many as you like. There is no cap on recipes in your cookbook, on shopping lists, or on how many lists you share.
Are there any limits at all?
Only fair-use limits that stop one account overloading the recipe reader for everyone: 20 recipe imports an hour and 5 chef research requests an hour. They reset each hour, and normal cooking never comes close. Recipe grids load 50 at a time as you scroll.
Why are there no prices in the shopping list?
Because prices go stale and vary by store. Your list gives quantities and pack maths in Australian measures, aisle-sorted — never prices or store names.
What do you do with my data?
Your cookbook notes, scaling and shopping lists are yours and stay private to your account. Recipes added from the web feed the shared library, always credited back to the original site and author. We do not sell your data or run ads against it.
Can I delete my account and everything in it?
Yes. Deleting your account removes your profile, cookbook entries, notes and shopping lists. Shared library recipes stay, with your personal notes and identity stripped out.
How is it free if it uses AI?
Reading and converting recipes does cost us money, which is why the fair-use limits above exist. We would rather cap the extremes than charge cooks. If we ever build something new and expensive, we will say so plainly first, and everything on this page stays free.
